The Museum of Mississippi History and Mississippi Civil Rights Museum opened on December 9, 2017, to celebrate the state's bicentennial. The museums were the product of a partnership between public and private entities, with the taxpayers of Mississippi putting $90 million toward the site's construction and private donors giving $20 million for exhibits and endowments.

The Golden Triangle Early College High School (GTECHS) is Mississippi’s first early college high school. Opening in fall 2015, GTECHS is a partnership among the Mississippi Department of Education, Mississippi State University, and East Mississippi Community College, which houses the school on its Mayhew campus. GTECHS serves five school districts in northeast Mississippi. As an early college high school, GTECHS offers students the opportunity to earn college credit throughout their four years of high school. This means GTECHS graduates can earn an associate’s degree while in high school.

FAO and Mississippi State University (MSU) will step up cooperation on FAO's new Global Aquaculture Advancement Partnership (GAAP) programme and FAO's Emergency Preparedness and Response (EMPRES) programme to improve the capacity of developing countries in fish health and aquaculture. The Mississippi River Green Team is a two-year youth employment and conservation program for 14-17 year olds. They are a special environmental unit of Teen Teamworks.
